  • Focus on what moves the needle: Regardless of your company’s stage, it is essential to focus on highly actionable goals that yield tangible value. Too often, owners focus on tasks they feel comfortable with, or things they think their business should have but in reality don’t move the needle enough to be worthwhile.

  • Know when to let go: Starting your own business is hard work and requires you to wear every hat in the beginning. At some point, you have to elevate yourself so that you can do your highest level work, and provide a path of learning and progression for those under your leadership.

  • Plan for the long term: Every entrepreneur reaches a point where they have to decide how they want their business to grow. This is a critical time of reflection and can result in one of three paths: 1) you continue to grow the business on your own, 2) you continue to grow the businesses by bringing in investors and selling part of your business, or 3) you sell your business to a new owner and step away entirely. Planning for the long term will help you more easily adjust to the next level of growth and optimally prepare your business when the time to exit comes.
